Consortium Agreements

A consortium agreement is a written contract that enables students to pursue coursework at two institutions simultaneously. Under such an agreement, a student may receive financial aid based on total hours of enrollment at home/host institutions, however, schools are not required to enter into consortium agreements.

If a Spelman degree-seeking student has a valid and approved academic reason for requesting a consortium agreement, Spelman will serve as the ‘home’ school. Non-degree/Guest students may request that Spelman serve as the ‘host’ school and request a consortium agreement through the applicable ‘home’ school.

Federal Aid Transient Requirements

Procedures for Spelman students attending another Title IV eligible U.S. institution as a transient:

  • Students must provide to our office a Transient Approval Form from the Dean of Students Office.

  • The host institution must complete the Financial Aid Consortium/Transient Agreement Form located in etrieve.

  • The student should provide proof of registration and payment of fees at the host institution.

  • Eligible financial aid for Transient Status:

    1. Federal Pell Grant

    2. HOPE/Zell Miller Scholarships (Student must complete a HOPE Transient Form)

    3. Direct Student and PLUS Loans

  • If the host institution will not sign the Financial Aid Consortium/Transient Agreement Form, then we cannot disburse any Title IV financial aid until a transcript is received.

All students who enter into a consortium agreement with Spelman College as the home school will be required to provide proof of grades from the host school two weeks before the end of the term. Financial Aid for upcoming semesters will not be disbursed until the proof of grades has been provided. The deadline to submit a consortium agreement request is two weeks prior to the end of the term for which the student is requesting the consortium.

HOPE/Zell Miller Scholarship Transient Requirements

To qualify for the Georgia HOPE/Zell Miller scholarship for the term you are planning to attend as a transient student, you must submit the Financial Aid Consortium/Transient Agreement Form located in etrieve. If eligible, you will need to complete this form prior to attending the host institution. We will transmit the information to the host institution via electronic submission. Your HOPE/Zell Miller scholarship will be paid through your host institution.

Transcripts

Your financial aid, including HOPE/Zell Miller scholarship, will NOT pay for any subsequent semesters until the transcripts from the host institution are received and articulated by the Spelman Registrar's Office. Please note that the financial aid office does not accept official transcripts.

Attending Spelman (Host School) as a Transient or Guest Student

You are considered a Transient Student if you enroll at Spelman College to take advanced coursework that will transfer back to your home institution toward your degree program. Transient Students are classified as non-degree and are not normally eligible to continue studies at Spelman College with the intent of obtaining a degree from the College.

Once you are admitted as a guest/transient student, you are eligible to take classes during the approved semester only. Admission does not imply or guarantee future enrollment at Spelman College.

Students who are eligible for the HOPE/Zell Miller scholarship at their home institution should contact their Home School’s financial aid office to request certification of the student’s HOPE/Zell Miller Scholarship eligibility to the Georgia Student Finance Commission.  Our office can then access that information and award the HOPE/Zell Miller Scholarship to the student based on enrollment and the Home School's certification information.

No other aid (including loans) is available through Spelman. Students should contact their home institutions to determine if their aid can be used during transient terms.

International students: If you’re not a U.S citizen or a U.S. Permanent Resident, you may only apply to be a Transient Student if you’re participating in an approved Spelman College study abroad or exchange program.

Spelman College students who have a transient form from another institution should submit the form to the Office of Registrars for processing. Students who do not have a transient form but need to have a transient letter sent to another school, can complete and sign a Spelman College request form, Spelman College. Please allow at least one week for processing.
