Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges

Spelman College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award baccalaureate degrees. Questions about the accreditation of Spelman College may be directed in writing to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges at 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, GA 30033-4097, by calling 404-679-4500, or by using information available on SACSCOC website.

SACSCOC approved Spelman College for distance education and includes it in the scope of our accreditation.

As required by SACSCOC, Spelman tracks and reports substantive changes that impact institutional operations. The substantive change policy is available for public review.

Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation
National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education

Spelman College educator preparation programs are accredited under the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) Standards through the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) Accreditation System. In NCATE‘s performance-based accreditation system, institutions must provide evidence of competent teacher candidate performance. Teacher candidates must know the subject matter they plan to teach and how to teach effectively so that all students learn.

National Association of Schools of Music

The National Association of Schools of Music establishes national standards for programs in music and music-related disciplines. NASM accredits institutions that meet and maintain continuous compliance with the standards.
