The Student Success Program (SSP) is the umbrella unit that oversees academic support services at Spelman College. SSP uses best practices and essential resources to provide excellent academic support to help students realize their full potential.
Writing program faculty and staff work remotely, and Writing Center tutors are available for online appointments. The sessions are set as video conferences unless students' computers or laptops lack webcams. In that case, the session would occur in a chat space with a whiteboard.
The Writing Center, situated on the third floor of the The Camille Olivia Hanks Cosby, Ed.D. Academic Center, is the central location for the coordination of all Comprehensive Writing Program activities. A resource center open to all members of the Spelman community, the Writing Center provides services that support student writing in all the disciplines on the Spelman campus.
Its functions include consultation and assistance in all stages of the writing process, discussion of writing techniques and theories, collaborative writing exercises, and workshops and seminars for students, faculty, and staff. The objective of such a comprehensive approach to writing is to provide writers with the strategies that will allow them to approach with confidence each writing task they face in college and throughout their careers.
