Mission

The Spelman College Office of Government Relations and Community Relations serves as a liaison between Spelman College, the community, and local, state, and federal officials. 

We advocate and leverage relationships on behalf of the College with Government and Community stakeholders to further the College’s mission.

  • Forms and maintains relationships with local city officials, community agencies, and government representatives
  • Encourages open dialogue between the College and elected officials and members of the City of Atlanta and Fulton County community concerning Spelman priorities, activities, and decisions
  • Assists external audiences in better serving their constituents through the dissemination of information and services
  • Holds regular meetings with elected officials and members of the college’s neighboring communities
  • Represents the college at community events
  • Solicits support for the college through community engagement
