What Makes You Spelman Strong?

Spelman is as multifaceted as the women who have walked her halls. Our daughters, our sisters, our friends — they all come here with hopes and dreams and leave prepared to make their mark upon the world.

Spelman Strong is the way we come together to make that happen. This fund is the lifeblood of Spelman’s financial stability, expansion and longevity. It directly influences every facet of a Spelmanite’s experience, from providing her with access to the best faculty talent to creating a campus of which she can be proud. With your annual Spelman Strong donation, Spelman’s legacy will resound for generations to come.

So, let us know so we can share it with the world. What makes you Spelman Strong?

Spelman alumna Skylr Smith, C’2021, shares what makes her Spelman Strong:

skylr-smithIf it wasn’t for my village, I wouldn’t be the resilient and tenacious person that I am today. Whenever I encounter an obstacle, instead of asking, “Why me?” I ask, “What lesson was I just taught?”

With the help of my village, I find ways to incorporate what I learned to lift others along the way as I climb. Having a sense of community and keeping a positive outlook on life is what helps me remain Spelman Strong.

Smith, a political science major with a minor in education studies from Saint Louis, Missouri, graduated Magna Cum Laude and was named a White House Initiative on HBCUs Competitiveness Scholar in 2020. While at Spelman, she served as SGA vice president, was a Social Justice Fellow and was inducted into the Kappa Delta Epsilon National Education Honor Society and the Pi Sigma Alpha National Political Science Honor Society.
