If it wasn’t for my village, I wouldn’t be the resilient and tenacious person that I am today. Whenever I encounter an obstacle, instead of asking, “Why me?” I ask, “What lesson was I just taught?”
With the help of my village, I find ways to incorporate what I learned to lift others along the way as I climb. Having a sense of community and keeping a positive outlook on life is what helps me remain Spelman Strong.
Smith, a political science major with a minor in education studies from Saint Louis, Missouri, graduated Magna Cum Laude and was named a White House Initiative on HBCUs Competitiveness Scholar in 2020. While at Spelman, she served as SGA vice president, was a Social Justice Fellow and was inducted into the Kappa Delta Epsilon National Education Honor Society and the Pi Sigma Alpha National Political Science Honor Society.
