Mathematics Research and Mentoring Program (Math RaMP)

The overarching goal of the Mathematics and Research Mentoring Program (Math RaMP) is to increase the number of African American women who pursue advanced degrees and/or careers in the mathematical sciences and to ensure that students who complete the program have an enhanced understanding of the broader career options available in pure and applied mathematics.

Objectives

To achieve the goals of the program, Math RaMP has the following objectives pertaining to the scholars in the program:

  • Provide annual stipends to scholars to minimize the need for off-campus employment in non-related areas during the academic year and summer months
  • Require all scholars to conduct undergraduate research in the mathematical sciences
  • Provide faculty advising/mentoring to scholars
  • Develop a nurturing community and peer-network that will support student development
  • Expand exposure to career opportunities in the mathematical sciences
  • Develop students' professional skills and marketability
  • Provide funding for students to attend and present at regional and national conferences

The 2020-2021 Math RaMP Program is generously supported by
the Boeing | Thurgood Marshall College Fund HBCU Capacity Grant Program.
