Core Area 1: Expertise in Intelligence and Security Studies

In this foundational area, Spelman commits to transforming its curriculum to better integrate critical aspects of leadership, intelligence, and security studies. Emphasis on the roles and contributions of women of color will offer fresh perspectives within these fields, preparing our students for pivotal roles in national and global security arenas. Enhancements in language and cultural proficiency will include expanding our offerings in strategically significant languages like Japanese and Chinese, and adding new languages such as Arabic and Korean, and integrating specific intelligence terminologies and cultural nuances that are critical for modern intelligence operations. Moreover, faculty development will be prioritized through comprehensive programs and the expansion of our IC Scholar in Residence program, aiming to deepen faculty expertise and link academic research directly with intelligence community needs.

Core Area 2: Global Awareness and Operational Understanding

Recognizing the importance of a global perspective, this area focuses on integrating global security issues related to the African Diaspora, Refugee and Forced Migration, and similar issues into existing programs, enriched by targeted study abroad opportunities. These initiatives will not only broaden the understanding of international security but also enhance our students' ability to operate in diverse environments and bring their perspectives and thinking to bear on critical intelligence issues. The annual Colloquium will further establish a platform for dialogue among academia, the intelligence community, and industry leaders to address and dissect global intelligence challenges.

Core Area 3: IC Leadership Development for Women of Color

Dedicated to empowering women of color, this area includes targeted leadership initiatives that provide specialized training and mentorship tailored to their unique needs and perspectives. This effort is supported by scholarships aimed at reducing financial barriers for students from underrepresented demographics, thereby fostering a more diverse intelligence community.

Core Area 4: Sustainable Program Infrastructure

The structural backbone of Spelman’s IC CAE initiative involves establishing a robust management framework ensuring the program’s sustainability and effectiveness. This infrastructure will not only support the strategic administration of the IC CAE but also cultivate essential partnerships with intelligence agencies, academic institutions, and industry stakeholders. These relationships will enrich the educational offerings and expand career opportunities for our students, ensuring that Spelman College remains at the forefront of academic and professional preparation in intelligence and security studies.
