Departmental Honors

Major students from the Spanish or French program interested in a more rigorous curriculum and having their work recognized should consider applying for departmental honors. It is highly recommended that those planning to pursue graduate studies consider this option. To qualify for departmental honors, students must meet the following criteria:

• Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.7 in Spanish

• Maintain an overall minimum GPA of 3.5

For Spanish majors, they can fulfill the third requirement with one of the following:

• A 25–30-page thesis in Spanish, excluding the bibliography and notes. The thesis is also valid for students who double major in Spanish and International Studies or are part of the Ethel Waddell Githii Honors Program.

• A letter of support from the thesis director to endorse the quality and innovative nature of the capstone project.
