Women Who Learn and Lead
"Leadership should be born out of the understanding of the needs of those who would be affected by it.” -- Marian Anderson
The Women of Excellence Leadership at Spelman College (WELS) Series is a leadership program created for seniors and juniors. Incomplete applications, Spring Study Abroad participants, seniors who graduate in December, Glee Club members, and Spelman on the Hill attendees are not eligible for consideration as schedules for these activities conflict with WEL meeting dates.
Spelman College presents the Women of Excellence in Leadership (WELS) -- a program designed to train students for leadership roles in the global community. This program — developed in keeping with the College’s objective to cultivate change agents for a civil and just society — features leadership experts, including Spelman faculty, non-profit executives, corporate representatives, and entrepreneurs.
The WELS Mission
The WELS program is designed to feed the need for dedicated ethical, articulate, solution-oriented leaders, in the world community. Through WELS, students experience leadership and professional training typical for professional women.
The WELS series was created to fulfill the need for dedicated, ethical leaders
This seven-week course is designed to be of most benefit for women currently in their junior and senior year of college. Students involved in the program experience leadership development and professional training from national experts, noted faculty, and prominent corporate partners.
The WELS Program Will Ultimately . . .
- Prepare students as leaders and change agents for the world community
- Offer exposure to leaders in the public and private sectors of the community
- Cultivate a cadre of new leaders who appreciate their own values and the views of others
