Spelman College Glee Club at Serenbe

WABE Studio's video chronicling the Spelman College Glee Club's extraordinary choral performance filmed at the Art Farm at Serenbe's beautiful wildflower meadow located just south of Atlanta, Geogia, will amaze and inspire you. Since 1924, the Spelman Glee Club has upheld choral excellence with a diverse repertoire spanning world cultures, commissioned works, sacred and secular literature, and music by African American composers. Emphasizing harmonies that complement women's voices, the Glee Club fosters community and pride at Spelman College.

Currently under the direction of Dr. Kevin Johnson, associate professor of music, the Glee Club has traveled throughout the United States and performed for a variety of audiences in churches, high schools, colleges and universities. Past performance venues include the Faneuil Hall in Boston, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center in New York City, and the National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C.

Anderson Family Scholarship Supports Spelman Choral Students

Five Glee Club students laughing together

This year, the Spelman College Glee Club has the pleasure of announcing that The Edward D. Anderson Choral Annual Scholarship has been established by Dr. Donald Anderson in honor of his father Edward ‘Ed’ Anderson.

Ed Anderson, who devoted his life to furthering choral music, earned his masters of music degree from  Michigan State University and soon after became the institution's director of choral activities, a position he maintained for 34 years. He passed away in 2014, just two weeks shy of his 96th birthday.

Beginning in January 2022, the Edward D. Anderson Choral Annual Scholarship will support two first-year, sophomore, or junior students a semester. The selected students must have been members of the Spelman Glee Club for one (1) fiscal year.

Spelman College scholarships are awarded through the Office of Financial Aid. Interested applicants must contact the Office of Financial Aid at 404-270-5222.

Support the Scholarship.  Help Spelman Students Thrive.

To support the funding of Spelman’s first choral annual scholarship and to offer a new giving opportunity to help address the growing financial needs of our students, we set a giving goal of $5,000 a year.

With a gift of $100 to the scholarship fund today, you can show your support and pay it forward. The satisfaction you gain from helping the next generation of Spelman women, is a reward that will last forever.
