Barry Goldwater Scholarship
The Barry Goldwater Foundation awards scholarships to undergraduate students interested in the natural sciences, mathematics and engineering. Sophomores and/or juniors who plan to conduct research during their junior and/or senior semesters are eligible to apply.
**Please be advised that Goldwater recipients MUST use the award to fund four (4) semesters of study for junior recipients and two (2) semesters of study for seniors recipients.** NO EXCEPTIONS.
The application process consists of online submissions to the Goldwater site (Profile, Pre-Application, and if advanced, the Full Application).

How to Apply
- Complete the Student Profile and Pre-application on the Goldwater website and the Domestic Prestigious Opportunities Pre-Application Form.
- If your Goldwater Pre-application is accepted by Spelman's Review Committee, you will be prompted to complete a full application via the Goldwater website.
- You will also receive a link to your unique shared drive folder where you will upload all your application materials.
- You are encouraged to work with a Faculty Mentor during the application process.
- The full application, including supporting materials, is due the second Monday in October by 5 p.m. EDT. Save your application as a PDF, and upload all your application materials to your shared drive folder.
- Supporting documentation includes:
- Copy of unofficial transcript
- Current resume
- Three letters of recommendation. Recommenders will receive a unique link to upload their recommendation letter to your application file.
- The Spelman Review Committee will review all applicants and select the most qualified for an internal interview.
- Interviews are scheduled for the beginning of November.
Please note that we may only select four applicants to advance to the Goldwater Foundation.
