Chinese is the most widely spoken language in the world, with over one billion speakers. It is one of the six official languages of the United Nations. It is also one of the Critical Languages identified by the State Department—languages that are critical for U.S. national security and economic prosperity. U.S.-China relations are the most important bilateral relations in the world. Many challenges our world is facing—from climate change to nuclear proliferation—require the two countries' cooperation.
Proficiency in Chinese language and culture will enable you to communicate with more than one billion people. It will give you an edge in the job market and will open more windows of opportunity for you.
