Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps is comprised of students who attend Spelman College, Morehouse College and Clark Atlanta University. Our mission is to develop midshipmen mentally, morally, and physically and imbue them with the highest ideals of duty and loyalty, with a focus on the Navy's Core Values of honor, courage, and commitment.
Each of our college graduates earn a commission into military service as Navy and Marine Corps officers who possess basic leadership traits, a tested professional background, and have a potential for future development in mind and character so as to assume the highest responsibilities of command in both citizenship and government.
Lead by Example
Expect early mornings and late evenings as you prepare yourself both physically and mentally for the rigors of the military and academia. More will be expected of you than the average student. Simply placing on the uniform will set a higher moral, academic and ethical standard the general community at large. A student may elect to participate in the NROTC program in one of two ways: as a college programmer or as a scholarship student.
College Programmer
The college programmer is offered to college students who wish to serve their country as commissioned officers in the Navy or Marine Corps, but who have not been awarded any form of NROTC scholarship. This program is designed for those students with at least three years of college coursework remaining. Ultimately, the goal of a College Program Basic Course student should be to select for College Program Advance Course or Scholarship.
Scholarship Program
The Scholarship Program includes students who are awarded one of the many scholarships offered by the Navy and Marine Corps.
Scholarship benefits include tuition, book allowance, academic fees and a monthly stipend. Benefits will depend upon a student's degree plan, but typically not to exceed four years without approval for extended benefits.
