The Spelman MILE, or My Integrated Learning Experience, is an interdisciplinary curriculum that guides our young women to develop fully intellectually and personally, to think critically, analyze and solve problems, and to confidently communicate with others across lines of difference for the benefit of an increasingly interdependent global community.
A transformational journey, the Spelman MILE integrates and connects curricular and co-curricular experiences to provide students with the intellectual foundation, knowledge, skills, and competencies for continued intellectual growth, leadership, success, and service.
The Spelman student engages in traditional, foundational, and interdisciplinary studies, and experiences globally-focused courses and opportunities intended to guide them in becoming citizens who can effectively compete in the global cultures and economies.
This holistic approach to education integrates a rigorous curriculum with both applied and service learning, teamwork and leadership development, and diversity and global learning. By closely coordinating academic initiatives and student activities, Spelman creates a cohesive framework for essential experiences benefiting every student. Alumnae mentors, who serve as compelling role models, also provide professional resources and a worldwide network.
