Anjanette Levert is a documentary filmmaker, producer, curator, coach and professor. As a senior lecturer at Spelman, she directs the Documentary Filmmaking Program and is the 2022 Presidential Teaching Award Recipient. Recently, she added the podcaster title after creating the first season of "Future Forward,” where BIPOC documentary filmmakers discuss futures with the opportunity opened by the pandemic.
Levert studied journalism at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism and went on to work in print, broadcast and online journalism in such media outlets as The Atlanta Journal and Constitution, CNN, Black Entertainment Television, CBS and ABC. She subsequently earned her MFA in Film from the City College of New York, and for five years served as Associate Director of the Documentary Forum at CCNY.
She is an award-winning short film director/producer, "Shake It Up, Shake It Down" and "The Marriage Proposal." For feature films, she is the producer of “The Only Doctor” by Matthew Hashiguchi and associate producer for “Black Voters Matter” by Daresha Kyi and Model U.N by Andrea Weiss. She is an alumnus of the Southern Producers Lab (New Orleans Film Society), Arts Emerging Leaders Program (New York Foundation for the Arts) and a participant in the Sundance Producers Intensive.
