What health disparity are you interested in solving and why?
The health disparity I am most passionate about addressing is the lack of access to quality healthcare in rural communities, alongside diversifying fertility medicine to better serve underrepresented populations. Growing up, I witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by my grandparents, who live in rural North Carolina. They often had to drive two to three hours to receive adequate healthcare, a burden that deeply affected their well-being and quality of life. This experience ignited my commitment to improving healthcare access for individuals in similar situations, ensuring that rural populations have equitable opportunities to receive timely and quality medical care. In addition, I am driven to diversify fertility medicine, a field that historically has not adequately addressed the unique needs of underrepresented groups, particularly Black women and other minorities. Cultural barriers, systemic biases, and a lack of representation in fertility care contribute to disparities in outcomes and access. I aim to help dismantle these barriers by increasing awareness, representation, and accessibility in this critical field. These dual focuses—rural healthcare access and diversification of fertility medicine—reflect my deep commitment to creating a more equitable healthcare system for all.
