What health disparity are you interested in solving and why?

The fight against breast cancer is incredibly personal to me, especially when I think about the unacceptable health disparities that Black women face. Knowing that Black women have a 40% higher mortality rate compared to white women isn't just a statistic; it's about the mothers, daughters, and sisters who deserve the same fighting chance to live their lives to the fullest. These numbers reflect deeper systemic issues, such as inconsistent access to quality care, socioeconomic barriers, and healthcare providers overlooking their specific needs and concerns. I feel a deep responsibility to act with empathy and determination to address this disparity. This means advocating for equitable access to screenings and care to ensure that Black women receive early detection and have access to the latest treatments. I am committed to supporting policies that address these inequities and backing community programs that empower Black women with necessary knowledge and resources. My passion lies not only in supporting efforts to cure cancer but also in breaking down the barriers that prevent equitable healthcare access. In doing so, I hope to honor the lives of Black women and work toward a future where every woman can face breast cancer with hope and confidence.
