What health disparity are you interested in solving and why?

I am dedicated to addressing the health disparity of limited dermatological care in underserved communities, particularly as it affects women. Skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and acne are common, yet many people in low-income or rural areas lack access to specialized care due to financial, geographic, or systemic barriers. This limited access often leads to the under-treatment or mismanagement of skin health issues, which can significantly impact one’s physical and emotional well-being. As an African American woman pursuing dermatology, I am also deeply aware of the importance of representation in this field, which has historically lacked diversity. Having diverse voices and perspectives is crucial for providing culturally competent care and addressing unique skin health challenges that disproportionately affect people of color. Through my future role as a dermatologist specializing in women’s health, I hope to close this gap by providing compassionate, comprehensive care that addresses both the physical and emotional aspects of dermatological health, while also paving the way for greater diversity within the field.
