What health disparity are you interested in solving and why?

I aspire to become the nation's top surgeon, tackling the health disparities within the African American Community. In my pursuit of academic, moral, social and civic excellence as a student at Spelman, I am invested in intellectual work because I understand that, at its core, intellectual work will empower me to grow in my understanding of the world around me and in how I respond to it. Adequate healthcare should not require those who live in rural areas to drive long distances and go to extreme lengths. Becoming an African American female physician would allow me to give back to not only my community, but other communities who suffer from health inequity. Adequate, effective, and accessible healthcare is the core of the mission as I strive to give back to the "village" that raised me.
