What health disparity are you interested in solving and why?

I am deeply interested in addressing the health disparity of unequal access to preventive care, particularly in African American and low-income communities. Preventive care services, such as screenings, vaccinations, and wellness visits, are essential for the early detection and management of chronic conditions like diabetes, hypertension, and cancer. However, many marginalized populations face significant barriers to accessing these services due to systemic issues such as economic inequality, geographic disparities, and gaps in health education. This issue resonates with me because I have seen how delayed or inaccessible care can lead to severe health consequences, particularly for those who are already vulnerable. As someone pursuing a health law and public policy career, I am committed to advocating for systemic reforms to close these gaps. For instance, I aim to support policies that expand Medicaid and other insurance programs, incentivize healthcare providers to establish clinics in underserved areas and fund community outreach initiatives to educate the public about preventive care.
