Spelman Students Empowering Women in Sports at Morehouse Conference

Spelman’s Continued Impact in Sports Business

For the second year in a row, Spelman College students are making their mark at the Morehouse College Sports Business Conference, solidifying their impact in the sports industry. With Spelman students serving as committee chairs, these women are not only shaping the event's success but also reinforcing the importance of more women in the sports business, at large.

Set for February 22 in the Bank of America Auditorium at Morehouse College, the conference serves as a gateway for HBCU students looking to break into the competitive world of sports business. From working with top industry professionals to gaining hands-on experience, students will be able to explore care opportunities in a field that remains difficult to access without the right network.

The leadership of women in this year‘s conference is a testament to their dedication and strategic expertise. Their involvement in creating panels, securing sponsorships, and overseeing logistics ensures a seamless experience for all participants.

Spelman’s Leadership Shaping Future Opportunities

Senior Niya Foster serves as Co-Chair of Events, overseeing the event structure, and bringing in dynamic speakers. Meanwhile, Cayla Morgan and Chelsea Mendes serve as Co-Chairs for Partnerships, securing funding that has surpassed the budget of Morehouse College’s Office of Student Life — a major milestone for the student-led conference. Additionally, M’Kenzie Harmon is making her mark as Chair of Marketing for the second year, playing a critical role in driving visibility and engagement across platforms. Djenebou Traore, Chair of Programming at Spelman, is also contributing significantly to the success of the conference with her leadership in curating impactful and engaging sessions.

Spelman College has long emphasized leadership and career readiness, particularly in industries where black women have been historically underrepresented. The presence of Spelman students in these pivotal roles at the conference is not only indicative of their dedication to fasting inclusivity in sports business, but to paving new pathways for Spelmanites in the future.

A Growing Influence in Sports Business

With sponsorships for major organizations like NASCAR, the NBA, the NFL, the NHL, and MLB, the conference continues to attract high-profile industry professionals who are eager to engage with HBCU talent. The conference service is a powerful networking hub, opening doors for students to establish meaningful connections, secure internships and launch full-time careers.

Spelman Women Setting a New Standard in Sports Business

The increasing presence of Spelman women in sports business leadership is setting a precedent for future students. Their contributions at the sports business conference send a clear message: opportunities are growing and AUC students — regardless of gender — have a place in this industry.

As the Morehouse College Sports Business Conference continues to grow, the contributions of Spelman women ensure that HBCU students remain at the forefront of industry conversations for years to come.
