Jordyn Patterson vividly remembers the moment she realized she could do anything she put her mind to. During her internship at the Propel Center, she managed a nine-person team to produce a full scale music video. She managed everything from the song's production to the artwork to the marketing strategy, ensuring it was completed two weeks ahead of schedule.
"Winning that competition reinforced a powerful lesson – I not only had the vision but also the leadership and execution skills to turn ambitious ideas into reality.” That experience became the catalyst for her future, solidifying her confidence in navigating high-stake environments, and fueling her drive to carve out a career in sports and entertainment Law.
Growing up on the South Side of Chicago shaped Patterson’s perspective in profound ways. "My mother always told me, 'Excellence is not an option; it’s an expectation.'" Her mother instilled in her a relentless drive for excellence and an appreciation for diversity, values that have guided her through every academic and professional endeavor. A transformative encounter with Laila Brock from the Atlanta Dream further affirmed her passion for sports management, opening her eyes to the possibilities within the industry.
Now, as a senior political science major at Spelman College, Patterson is pursuing her dream with fervor and her journey is defined by an unwavering commitment to excellence. "I believe that every experience should challenge me and push me closer to my career goals." Throughout her time at Spelman, she has consistently sought out opportunities that challenge and refine her skills, ensuring that every experience pushes her closer to her career goals.
Patterson’s leadership extends beyond her professional ambitions. She is an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. initiated through the Eta Kappa chapter on Spelman‘s campus, where she actively engages in community service and mentorship. She’s also a dedicated member of the National Council of Negro Women, using her platform to uplift and empower Black women. Most recently, she was selected as a Spring 2025 Scholar for the DREAM Program, an opportunity provided by the DREAM Foundation that equips HBCU students with the tools, mentorship, and industry access needed to excel in the sports business. Patterson‘s time at Spelman has been shaped by an intentional approach to growth, strategic decision-making and a commitment to leaving a legacy of impact.
"As I prepare for the next phase of my journey, one thing is clear – I will continue to shape the future of sports and entertainment law with the same determination that has propelled me to this point."
