What health disparity are you interested in solving and why?
I am interested in the high mortality rate among Black women surrounding childbirth and other obstetrics/gynecological concerns. Black women are disproportionately affected compared to other racial and ethnic groups. Factors such as systemic racism, implicit bias in healthcare, limited access to quality prenatal care, and chronic health conditions all contribute to this disparity. By tackling this issue, it could lead to transformative improvements in maternal health, supporting healthier pregnancies, births, and postpartum experiences for Black women.
