Domestic Exchange Student Reflections
Loyola Marymount University
Driving onto Loyola Marymount University’s (LMU) campus, my nerves began to build up. It is natural to feel anxiety when entering a new place. My advisor, Ms. Visapattana, has been extremely helpful working to ensure that I have the best time at LMU. Our first time meeting, she introduced me to everyone in her office, provided me a list of places to visit in Los Angeles, and introduced me to my first friend on campus (Stephanie). I also learned that another Spelmanite, Dominique, is also at LMU this semester.
Dominique has been at LMU since the fall semester, so I was thrilled to have someone who is more familiar with the campus fill me in. In addition, my academic experience has been a smooth adjustment. In the beginning, I was nervous about speaking in class and making friends. I have heard stories of racial inequality in classroom settings on PWI campuses; however, I am grateful that I have not encountered discomfort in the classroom.
