My name is Sade' Harper, and I am a junior economics major doing a semester at Stanford University. It has been a difficult transition so far because Stanford works on the quarter system and the teaching styles are extremely different from Spelman.The quarter system shrinks the semester system down to three months which means it takes out all of the breaks and is a sprint from day one to the end of the semester. It is week 4 and I have already done my midterms and am currently preparing for my second week of midterms in two weeks.
Additionally, even though the classes are faster, it does not necessarily mean the professors will provide extra help because they are Nobel Peace Prize winners, the classes have 80+ students, or they have over 40 conferences a year. I have not yet found my footing, so wish me luck as I try to find balance and a level foundation.
