Domestic Exchange Student Reflections
American University
American University is a place where students work hard and are engaged in the political culture of DC. Many students intern with lobbyists, or they are advocates for politically charged issues.
Being in the Washington Semester Program (WSP) has pushed me to make connections with people and step out of my comfort zone. So far, my classes have been amazing because we get to meet professionals who offer academic and career advice.
I am excited about interning with my state representative because I get a behind-the-scenes view of how government works. The staff in my office work really hard to support the congressman’s efforts.
Choosing the WSP at American University was a great choice because I am taking what I have learned at Spelman and applying it to the real world. For example, I get to engage with the different groups that come to lobby the congressmen.
