Spelman College is proud to announce Georgia State University (GSU) College of Law professor, entertainment lawyer and alumna Moraima ‘Mo’ Ivory, C’91, as the keynote speaker for Homecoming Convocation. The Convocation will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 24, in Sisters Chapel. This year’s Homecoming Convocation will focus on celebrating arts, entertainment and culture and will be moderated by graduating senior Destiny Blash, C'2025.

Convocation FlyerAn advocate for voting rights in the local community, Ivory has worked behind the scenes for multiple political campaigns. In 2008, she aided in Barack Obama’s first presidential campaign and helped raise funds for a week-long charter bus rental that took over 12,000 students to vote. She presently serves as the director of GSU's Entertainment, Sports & Media Law Initiative.

Following Homecoming Convocation, Spelman will host its Arts and Entertainment Summit. This year’s summit will introduce current students and alumnae to the arts and entertainment industry through career networking, internship opportunities and by creating a pipeline for entry level positions in the industry.

The summit will include multiple sessions and panels featuring prominent artists and industry experts, including singer Denise White, C’98, also known as Avery Sunshine, New York Times Bestselling author Tayari Jones, C’91, and more.

On Thursday, October 24, at 2 p.m., Ivory will join Traci Bransford, C'85, sports, media and corporate attorney, for an insightful discussion about their experiences in the sports and entertainment industry. The session, titled 'Legal Playmakers: Spelman Voices in Sports and Entertainment,' will be moderated by pre-law student Zoe Blackmon, C'2025, and held in Sisters Chapel.

This year’s 2024 Homecoming schedule features exciting events for both alumnae and students to enjoy. This Tuesday, October 22, Spelman and Morehouse students can join together for Spelhouse Field Day, a competitive field day full of fun and games. The week also includes a Hip-Hop concert, fashion show and step show. The Spelman Alumnae Tailgate Experience will take place on Saturday, October 26, for alumnae to reconnect and mingle with their fellow sisters.
