Since the turn of the 21st century, work modalities, workplace demographics and employee values have drastically shifted workplace culture over time. As the workforce continues to evolve, higher learning institutions are working to prepare their students for the expectations of the workforce of tomorrow.

Recently, Spelman College partnered with Tapestry Networks to host Reimagining the Future of Talent, a productive dialogue among leading executives, thought leaders, and Spelman and Morehouse students and faculty on the evolving landscape of corporate culture, talent, workplace equity and technology.

“The global trends indicate we're going to have a more diverse workforce and that the workers of the future expect and want diversity in their work environment,” said Spelman President Helene D. Gayle during her opening remarks. “I think we will have the most productive workplaces when we value the unique contributions everyone brings and allow people to be their authentic selves.”

Top executives and board members from companies like The Coca-Cola Company, Google, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Warner Bros. Discovery and more joined for a candid exchange about how companies could more effectively address a changing work environment.

“This conversation comes at a critical juncture as boards are seeking to become more informed on the shifts in human capital strategy,” said one director. “Organizations are realizing that if they don’t make strategic investments in inclusive talent pathways, they will be left behind.”

Others emphasized employer goals of “keeping the workforce connected and engaged,” and ensuring their employees feel valued throughout their career journeys.

During each discussion, Spelman and Morehouse students asked insightful questions about emerging technology in the workforce, layoff prevention and retention efforts, propelling the dialogue forward for a more meaningful conversation. The event culminated in a networking reception and reflections dinner for participants to continue engaging and connecting with one another.
