ATLANTA (September 16, 2024) – Spelman College will host the annual Georgia Reproductive and Maternal Health Justice Summit on Thursday, September 19, partnering with trailblazing institutions and organizations to have important conversations about fertility and maternal health outcomes in the Black community.
Spelman, along with several other schools and one organization, will each host in-person and virtual panel discussions about reproductive and maternal health and differences in outcomes based on race and class. The panels will review solutions that have been shown to improve outcomes and include opportunities to advocate to local and national elected officials around reproductive and maternal health.
“It is an honor for Spelman College and the sororities on campus to host the Georgia Reproductive & Maternal Justice Summit,” said Dr. Andrea Lewis, director of student success and associate professor of education at Spelman. “Spelman's legacy of empowering student leaders makes it an ideal venue for advancing conversations and action around reproductive and maternal justice, especially as these issues disproportionately affect women of color. This summit prioritizes the vital intersection of gender, race and health equity in the ongoing struggle for reproductive rights and maternal health.”
The summit will take place from 6-8 p.m. EDT in a hybrid format, and will include “watch parties” from Spelman, Stone Mountain, Augusta University and Morehouse School of Medicine. Click here to register.
