Nia McKenzie is a junior environmental science major from Atlanta, Georgia. Nia’s research focuses on environmental justice. Since she started college, she has been investigating water contamination in southern suburbs of suburbs of Atlanta. In summer of 2023 Nia worked in Georgia Tech’s Climate Energy Policy Lab on an equity project for climate solutions.
Nia is one of Spelman’s Bonner Scholars and has served as a SpelReads Guide, elementary school class facilitator, and after-school administrative assistant in her first two years of college. During the summer of 2024, Nia will work as a NASA ULI scholar on supersonic air transport research.
