Kaia Godsey is an alumna of Spelman College. While at Spelman, Kaia majored in Sociology, with a Food Studies minor.
Her favorite activities with her Food Studies Cohort included working in the Victory Garden, developing herbal recipes, and fostering ongoing sisterhood and community relationships with food.
Having a long-standing interest in food justice, Kaia has worked to understand the nuances of Food Apartheid in various communities and the effects it can have on the overall wellbeing of a community. The Food Studies program fostered this passion in such a way that it led her to consider how to best pursue a career in advocating for food justice. Kaia is proud to announce that she will be continuing her education through EuroPubHealth, a two-year, dual degree program that will allow her to study food and public health in Ireland and The Netherlands.

“Spelman College's Food Studies Program, the first interdisciplinary food studies program at an Historically Black College and University, engages students in an innovative exploration of food interdisciplinarity and centers its connectivity to the African Diaspora, intersectionality, and food science. It is our hope that our food scholars will find the needed community, scholarship, and professional opportunities through the program to approach some of these pressing global and local food challenges.
