Please mark your calendars to join the English Department for a rich lineup of events celebrating the power and possibilities of literature, media, writing, and activism! The English Department's annual LIT WEEK (Sunday, March 23 - Monday, March 31) celebration is packed with workshops, screenings, discussions, and social justice activities featuring acclaimed writers, scholars, and activists from the AUC and beyond, including:
- Prentice Penny is an American producer, writer, and director. He is best known as the showrunner for the HBO series Insecure. He is the writer and director of the Netflix film Uncorked. He was the creator and host of the show Upscale with Prentice Penny.
- Shannon Sanders, C'2007, is a Black writer and attorney and the author of the forthcoming linked short story collection "Company."
- Cherie Jones a writer, lawyer and mom-of-four. Her short stories have variously been published in PANK, Cadenza, Eclectica, The Feminist Wire and broadcast on BBC Radio 4. She’s a fellowship awardee of the Vermont Studio Centre and completed her MA with distinction at Sheffield Hallam University, where she was awarded the Archie Markham Award and the A.M Heath prize.
- Pamela Winn, C'1989, activist and advocate for the rights of currently and formerly incarcerated people.
- Dr. Sa'ed Atshan, Palestinian American anthropolgist and professor of Peace and Conflict Studies at Swarthmore College.

Social Justice Saturday: 1 p.m | ZOOM | Town Hall on the Future of Prison Outreach at Spelman featuring Dr. Kipton Jensen, Director of the Higher Education in Prisons Program in Morehouse's Andrew Young Center for Global Leadership, and formerly incarcerated activists Pamela Winn, founder of RestoreHER and the Formerly Incarcerated College Graduates Network; La-Meik Taylor, specialist at the NYS Youth Justice Institute and restorative justice peer at Urban Grief; and Reggie Dugue, artist-activist and graduate of the Bard Prison Initiative and debate team.
