Center for Innovation and the Arts Opening Ceremony
You are invited to a special campus celebration of the Mary Schmidt Campbell Center for Innovation and the Arts on Wednesday, April 23, 2024, at the Westview Drive entrance, outside the Milligan Building, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. This event will feature special guests, activities, and more. Bring lawn chairs or a blanket to relax on the lawn.
Spelman has made substantial investments to enhance the integration of the arts and technology within the liberal arts and sciences. The new $96 million center is the first building located just outside the campus’ historic gates. It is home to our thriving arts programs in dance, documentary filmmaking, photography, theater and music.
The 82,500-square-foot facility is uniquely designed to inspire creativity and forward-thinking. It features the Arthur M. Blank Innovation Lab, an interdisciplinary maker space where students from across the College come together to produce collaborative work using shared, state-of-the-art tools, digital media and gaming labs, and flexible classroom/event spaces. A double-height atrium, known as The Hive, houses offices, a conference and event center, and a rooftop terrace.
The CI&A also houses:
·The Atlanta University Center Art History and Curatorial Studies Collective
·Expanded space for the Spelman College Museum of Fine Art
·The Center for Black Entrepreneurship, and
·State-of-the-art dance performance studio and high-tech digital black box theatre
