Spelman College MLK Jr Day of Service 2025

Martin Luther King Jr. Day

The annual King Holiday Observance is a time to celebrate, commemorate and honor the life, legacy and impact of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Global citizens will have unique opportunities to learn and unite in celebration of Dr. King’s groundbreaking work and Mrs. Coretta Scott King’s powerful continuation and formal institutionalization of that work.

On Saturday, Jan. 18, Spelman students will attend the Atlanta History Center's "She Shall Not be Moved MLK Jr. Celebration event. We are especially excited to learn from Spelman Alumnae Dr. Vicki Crawford and Judge Brenda Cole who will be featured on a panel discussing the Atlanta Student Movement and the impactful role of women in the Civil Right Movement.
On Monday, Jan. 20, 2025, Spelman students, faculty, staff and alumnae are encouraged to participate in service projects throughout the city on this day.

Spelman College On Campus Project

The Spelman College Bonner Office is hosting Project Soft & Warm on campus where we will make no-sew fleece blankets that will be donated to our partners working with vulnerable families and elders in our community.

West Atlanta Watershed Outdoor Activity Center

We will also provide transportation to students serving at the West Atlanta Watershed Outdoor Activity Center’s MLK Day project.  Details and registration information for both projects can be found on the MLK Day of Service page in Spelman Serves .

There are also a number of projects and events taking place across the city. You can find more information about them here . The Bonner Office of Civic Engagement will not provide transportation to these events, but we invite you to collaborate with fellow Spelmanites and/or other AUC students to engage with the community through service.

There are no classes on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
