The World Languages and Cultures Portuguese program will be hosting a distinguished lecturer Djamila Ribeiro in the Camille Olivia Hanks Cosby, Ed.D. Academic Center Auditorium on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 5:30 p.m.
Ribeiro is a highly acclaimed Brazilian intellectual, writer, philosopher, and social justice activist. The author of Where We Stand. According to Yale University Press the book, Where We Stand, "offers a compelling intervention into contemporary discussions of power and identity: the concept of “speaking place.” A crucial component of conversations on race and gender in Brazil, speaking place is the idea that everyone has a social position in the world and that what we are able to say, and how it is received by others, depends on it.”
Event sponsors include African Diaspora of the World (ADW), Teaching Resources and Research Center (TRRC), and Gordon-Zeto Center (GZC). Come join us for a night full of perspectives from Ribeiro and talk about her book Where We Stand. Registration is required.
