United Negro College Fund (UNCF) Emergency Retention Grant Program

UNCF Emergency Retention Grants are “just-in-time” intervention aids for students at risk for dropping out of college due to an emergency financial hardship (e.g., medical bills, living expenses, unanticipated trips home due to a family emergency, replacing items due to theft, etc.).

UNCF has established the following criteria:  
  • Students must have a minimum grade point average of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale.
  • The student must be enrolled full-time.
  • The student must be a US citizen or legal resident.

Trellis Emergency Grant Program

The Trellis Emergency Grant Program provides one-time awards to students needing financial assistance for unforeseen, time-sensitive emergencies including, but not limited to, transportation, housing, rent, and utilities assistance. This funding can not be used for academic related expenses including outstanding balances, textbooks, or fees associated with the College.

There are several eligibility requirements which must be met in order to receive a Trellis emergency grant award:
  • Students must be in good financial standing at the time of application with Spelman College.
  • Students must be matriculated with a minimum GPA of 2.00.
  • Students must be matriculated and be in good academic standing.
  • Students must have a record of good conduct.
  • Students must have a current emergency need.
