The Health Careers Program of Spelman College was initiated in 1971 to advance more and better-qualified young women into the professional/allied health professional schools of medicine, dentistry, osteopathy, optometry, podiatry, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, and graduate health programs. Since 1970, the College has been successful in assisting well over 800 of its students in gaining admission to many prestigious professional or allied health professional institutions.
The program serves as a repository of information. We coordinate visits to healthcare facilities and professional schools, schedule on-campus visits for lectures and recruitment personnel, and assist students in identifying facilities where they may participate in academic enrichment/research activities during the academic years and summers. The Health Careers Program provides additional opportunities such as:
Major events and activities sponsored by the program include the Red Cross Blood Drive, Georgia Dwelle, M.D. Reception, Adrienne Bauduit Health Fair, Health Professions Conference, Annual Recruitment Fair, Nursing Roundtable, White Coat Ceremony and Donor Consortium Project Reception, etc.
