July 2019

Spelman College Alumna Ivory MillsIvory Mills, C'2012, who will spend a year at the University of Tokyo's Faculty of Law, as part of the Council on Foreign Relations International Affairs Fellowship, credits Spelman with preparing her for a career at the intersection of international law and communication technology.

Sponsored by Hitachi Asia, Ltd., the fellowship provides a select group of mid-career professionals with an opportunity to conduct research in Japan while establishing professional and personal networks. Mills will explore the new challenges foreign investment in information and communication technologies create for international investment law in general, and U.S. and Japanese laws, specifically.

“My professors and mentors at Spelman in the international studies department, the Women of Excellence in Leadership program, and the Japan Studies program encouraged my research interest and continue to provide support in all of my professional endeavors,

Mills, a Law & Science Fellow and dual degree candidate, pursued a Ph.D. in media, technology, and society and a J.D. at Northwestern Law. She holds a B.A. in international studies from Spelman, a M.A. in media, technology & society, and was a Fellow with the U.S. Department of Education’s Institute for International Public Policy, Cohort 16.
