Alexis Harden Graduates During Her Grandparents’ 70th Reunion

May 2019

Spelman Senior Alexis HardenWhen Alexis Harden, C'2019, receives her degree from Spelman, the moment will be three times as special for her and her family. Seventy years ago, her grandparents, Jacqueline H. Bryant, C'49, and Raleigh A. Bryant Jr., graduated from Spelman and Morehouse Colleges.

"It means the world to me to continue our family legacy," said Harden, an economics major. She has fond memories of listening to stories about her grandparents' time at the Atlanta University Center. "Spelman and Morehouse were very different 70 years ago. I was a little skeptical," she said. "But their affinity for the schools was too compelling for me not to consider attending.

When I talk to my grandmother about campus life now, she's surprised at how campus life has expanded." Following graduation, Harden plans to move back home to Washington, D.C., where she will take a position with Fannie Mae as a financial engineer.
