Alumna Renée McDonald Hutchins Named Law School Dean

February 2019

hutchins_reneeRenée McDonald Hutchins, C’90, was selected as the new Dean of the University of the District of Columbia’s David A. Clarke School of Law. Upon approval by the University Board of Trustees, Hutchins is expected to begin her term on April 17.

Recognized as an expert on the Fourth Amendment and criminal appellate practice, Hutchins has also written extensively on racial profiling, as well as stop and frisk. Recently, she added her voice to an anthology of essays, “Policing the Black Man: Arrest, Prosecution, and Imprisonment,” which dealt with the issue of racial profiling within America’s criminal justice system.

“I learned the power of Black girl magic while at Spelman. I also learned the true power of sisterhood,” said Hutchins. “My sister-friends have always been there to hold me up.”
