Christian Reeder Studies Homogenous Societies While Abroad

October 2018

Christian ReederFollowing her summer internship with the San Francisco Department of Public Health, Christian Reeder, C’2020, is spending the semester in Copenhagen, Denmark, studying prostitution and sex trafficking in Europe.

Reeder's summer experience was interdisciplinary, she said, and allowed her the opportunity to examine the marginalization of Black and brown communities in public health. Her summer experience is informing her study while in Denmark, which includes analyzing masculinity in Scandinavia, human trafficking in Europe and the Scandinavian Welfare State.

Reeder expects to return to Spelman with a comprehensive understanding of homogenous societies. “While on the surface Spelman appears to be a homogenous population, our thinking is among the most diverse I have experienced,” she said.
