Gifts of Cash
The majority of gifts to Spelman College are made in the form of cash, usually by personal check. Federal income tax savings significantly reduce the cost of your gift, if you itemize deductions. Your charitable gift may also be deductible on your state income tax return.
Your actual tax savings will depend upon the tax rates in effect at the time of your contribution. For example, if you are in the 28 percent federal tax bracket and a 7 percent state income tax bracket, you will realize an after-tax savings of about $300 for each $1,000 gift.
Checks should be made payable to Spelman College and mailed to:

A cash gift entitles you to a federal income tax deduction of up to 50 percent of your adjusted gross income. When your charitable cash gifts exceed 50 percent of your adjusted gross income in any one year, you may carry over the excess contributions for as many as five additional years.
